in your absence formed in Kansas City in 2003 after Jovid and Steve became friends with Justin. They then spent several months writing music and auditioning members until finding Dan. Once the lineup was cemented, the group went full-force into writing, rehearsing, and lining up shows. They went to Westend Studios in the winter of 2004 and recorded "The Napkin Demos" live and on one take, giving the EP a rich, raw sound.
After spending about a year playing shows in the Kansas City area, the band decided it was time to record a full-length album. They did their homework and sought out Larry Gann of Awestruck Studios. He had recorded Elton John, Natalie Imbruglia, Big & Rich, among many others. in your absence went into the studio in Winter 2005 and began recording Confession, a 45-minute long, 10-song album that sought to express some of the band's feelings on life, love, and loss.
The album was released independently on April 14, 2005 and was soon picked up for international distribution by Orchard Records. It is now available world-wide through stores such as Walmart, Sam Goody, Barnes & Noble, etc, as well as local Kansas City music stores. The album has been praised as "dark and brooding... a brilliant album that everyone should have in their CD collection..."[lithium radio], "one of the more eclectic mixes I've heard in some time"[gothic beauty magazine], "a very rich, raw voice...muscular bassline and cascading, moody guitars..."[the music appraisal], and a "primal barrage" of drums [asian public radio].
The band is currently on a hiatus from touring, but members of the band did write the soundtrack to the independent sci-fi film "Dark Operations: A Dark Odyssey Begins", released April 28, 2007. This soundtrack is also independently for sale.
